I got Google Maps and Google Earth.

Maps is an app that helps you move around town and find places. It helps you get around and get directions. 

But Earth is a tool that lets you explore the entire planet with super accurate 3D views. You can see anywhere and how things are. 

Google maps is very simple. You just put the adress that you want to go to (or the place ie. coffee shop or mall) and then chose your way of transport, be it public means, by foot or car, It also lets you know the traffic in the route and the time estimated. You can add multiple destinations and it lets you know the exact directions. There's a little person beside the zoom bar that you can click and drag to the map on the little purple squares, and this gives you the street view of that place. Pretty straightforward.

But google earth is a bit more complicated. You can see a 3D view of the planet, and you can spin is around and zoom in as you please. If you want you can also search any place you want, from your house to the school to the pyramids in egypt. It's almost like you're really there! You can even go close to the ground and see everything from and angle and it looks super realistic.A hidden feature that I found was that you can enter "airplane mode" where you can fly around in a plane. It's basically and airplane simulator.

Another cool thing is that you can check out the moon. You can visit the landing sites for all the space craft and take a 3D tour of the modules. Very cool. And you can do the same thing on mars. 

You can record tours, with your voice. This can be quite useful when trying to demonstrate where you went on your vacation.

We can use this tool in school to make projects. A great example would be a project  for our summer vacation and we can do a virtual tour of all the places you went to. But apart from that I don't see much else.

What I learned:

- I want to study medicine here in Bogota. It's a lot cheaper than afar, the education is fantastic and I save myself about 4 years of studying. 

- The universities I'd like to attend are: Los Andes, Javeriana and Nacional. They're in the top 5 for Colombian Universities.

Story Board:

1. Hi. My name is Mateo Osorio and today I'm going to compare a few careers. 
2. So to begin I drew up a few careers that kind of seemed interesting to me. They were medicine, film production, automotive engineering and photography. 
3. I researched a little on all of them, and found out a bit of each. But I soon learned that medicine was the career for me. It seemed to fit all the bills; it's super interesting, pays really well and the job market for it is fantastic, unlike the other three. 
4. So I quickly looked into studying medicine, and it's a tough career. It takes a long time, it's expensive and really hard to get admitted to. But I learned an awesome fact! In the US or other countries it takes 4 years of pre med, another 4 of medschool and then a couple more to become a certified doctor (around 10-12 years) but here in colombia, your're ready to work in just 6 years! Awesome!
5. Also, to become a specific doctor (I'm interested in psychiatry) it takes around another 4 years, but that I can do in another country, so I can live in another place.
6. Colombian universites are excellent medical schools. The ones that seem the best to me are: Javeriana, Los Andes and Nacional.They're very similar and very good.
7. It's EXTREMELY hard to get into med school. In the Nacional, 1 out of 55 people got in in 2011. And the bad part is that they only consider the admission test, so if I flunk it, it would be horrible. 
8. Colleges here are a lot cheaper than in the US. A semester in the US costs about 14,000 USD, while here it costs about 7,000.

-Psychiatry is about healing and treating the human mind through medicine and through therapy. 

-Being an film editor/animator is about taking all the footage that the director shoots and choosing the best clips. He also makes the clip look as good as he can on the big screen. The animator makes the animations, like in avatar or in any Disney movie. He tries to make it as realistic as possible.

-An automotive engineer is in charge of designing the car to make it as good as it can be while fitting the purpose it wants to be. ie speed, comfort, luxury, etc. It can also branch out, for example I could be in charge of designing the engine, or of the aerodynamics, or the cornering. 

-A photographer is a person that people hire to take photos of whatever they want. Most high-end photographers work in advertisements or in magazines. I would like to be a photographer/journalist for a magazine, be it travel, exploring, cars, whatever.

3. Pros and cons.

Pros: Very good salary, I get to help people, I would have a sense of proudness. Job security and lots of job openings and easy to get it. Easy hours
Cons: Very expensive colleges. Takes lots of time and is very difficult.

                                                               Film Animator/editor
Pros: easy hours, gives me a chance to develop my curiosity, I enjoy it.
Cons: Mediocre salary, terrible job outlook.

1. I already filmed the clip. Quite simple.

 I didn't have time to do much more because I was watching the tutorial on doing the sketch animation.

I learned how to do it and next class I will start animating it.

Google Day 2

Goals:
- What are the basics of how to use after effects.
- How do you make the fire effect on adobe after effects?
- Create new storyline.
- How to do a sketch effect.

1. Link. In this youtube video I learned the very basics of the program. I already knew most of what he said because I have already used similar editing software before.

2. Link. OMG. This software is ridiculously difficult to use. I think I'm going to have to cut my video in half and make it a lot shorter because of the complexity of after effects. But I learned that to make fire I need to make 3 layers, one of them black, one of them with swirl and one of them glow. I also need to download the particular plug in for AE to be able to do the fire particles.

3. Its sketches in from blank to me holding a basketball. I dribble it a little, but get bored, so I erupt it into flames. I dribble for a while and then Daniel walks in. He takes out a light saber and so do I. We go at it at I eventually kill him. The end.

This is a fantastic site for me to have a basic knowledge and once I am not so ignorant, I can start watching more advanced tutorials. I will use Adobe After Effects.

Script for video: It is going to be 3 minutes.
In my park, I walk into the middle of the screen and look  confused. I'm bored
I look at my hand and erupt them into flames.
I start to juggle the flames for about 5 seconds, but get bored, so I mash the flames together, and make one big ball (basketball). It's still covered in flames, so I blow on it and it freezes to an ice ball.
I spin and the setting turns to a basketball court. I throw the ball and it goes in the hoop. I appear in a basketball stadium and the crowd goes wild. Through the door busts a dinosaur and it starts to roar. I open my jacket and take out a M16. I start shooting it and I kill it. I start hearing this buzzing sound and I wake up. I go to my fridge and open it. It starts shining so I walk in it Narnia Style.The world is like a forest, and there is a portal in the middle of it. A helicopter passes over. A bunny comes over (my dog with ears) and I pick it up.
A panda walks over and does the iron-man thing on me.The bunny turns into a light-saber and I deflect it. We have and epic fight, and it ends with me killing the panda. The end

I will use the hands on fire. Fire freezing. The backboard shattering, and the transition into the stadium. The dinosaur animation, the M16 firing. The door effect (fridge). The portal, the helicopter. The iron-man thing, the bunny turns into a light-saber, and the light-saber fight.

Google 20%

For my Google 20% Project I want to learn how to do FX. I really want to make something that initially is very boring and uninteresting and make it visually incredible. These are some examples of what I wish I could do. FX is basically taking a clip and inserting a effect that makes it look like something else. It's really mindblowing when someone manages to do it well.

My goal is to make something with a mix between the football one and the Rollercoaster Tycoon one. I'll take some simple clips and mix them with very boring non-interesting clips of myself and use FX to make an awesome story.
