College Exploration on Naviance

Two schools that interest me:
- Loyola University interests me because it's in Chicago and that is an awesome city.
- Brooklyn College. I have a good chance of getting in and it's located in NYC.

    Columbia
University
(dream)
NYU     Los Andes John Hopkins
Tuition45k 41k 28k 42k
 Volleyball? Yes Yes YesNo
Equal genders Yes Yes ?Yes
Big city? Yes YesYes  Yes
GPA 3.78 3.6 SAT of 1700 3.77
Lots of people? Yes Yes Yes Yes
How many people from CNG got in? 1 out of 34 13 out of 43 ? 2 out of 8

My GPA from the first quarter was 3.65. I am scraping by in NYU but if I put some more effort in I might be able to go to JH or CU. I think that an SAT score of 1700 isn't very difficult to get, so I'll be able to apply to los Andes.

In this session I learned that to become a psychiatrist I will need to try harder and I will need to sacrifice a large part of my young life to achieve it. Fingers crossed.

Last Google Day

Goals:
1. Download After Effects for the school computer.
2. Film the clip.
3. Learn how to do the star wars lightning effect.
4. Start editing.

Proof:
1. I can't download it because I don't have enough processing power, RAM, or a 64 bit software.

2. Done. Greg helped me film and I used a broomstick to stab Daniel.

3. Click HERE
Here I learned how to do the lightsaber effect. It's quite easy, just drag and drop.
4. Can't, because I don't have the program

3. How do I sync the lightsabers to our hands?

Proofs:
1. I already filmed the clip. Quite simple.
I didn't have time to do much more because I was watching the tutorial on doing the sketch animation.
I learned how to do it and next class I will start animating it.

Google Day 2

Goals:
- What are the basics of how to use after effects.
- How do you make the fire effect on adobe after effects?
- Create new storyline.
- How to do a sketch effect.

Links:
1. Link. In this youtube video I learned the very basics of the program. I already knew most of what he said because I have already used similar editing software before.

2. Link. OMG. This software is ridiculously difficult to use. I think I'm going to have to cut my video in half and make it a lot shorter because of the complexity of after effects. But I learned that to make fire I need to make 3 layers, one of them black, one of them with swirl and one of them glow. I also need to download the particular plug in for AE to be able to do the fire particles.

3. Its sketches in from blank to me holding a basketball. I dribble it a little, but get bored, so I erupt it into flames. I dribble for a while and then Daniel walks in. He takes out a light saber and so do I. We go at it at I eventually kill him. The end.

4. Link. This is the video that shows me how to create the sketch effect.

Next Google day I want to film the clip and start doing the sketch animation.

Currency Converter

150 south african rand + 350 kuwait dinars + 200 japanese yen = 1266 USD
I used the Google currency converter. Just search "currency converter" in google and use that one

UJam

Click here to go to UJam

This site is incredible if you want to create or alter music. When you start a project you can either start a new song from scratch, you can choose a song you like and remix it, or you can take a clip of you talking and make a musical representation of your voice! Perfect if you want to create a musical christmas card.

I am going to create a birthday card.
Step 1. Go to the website, click on create and click on Jam-a-Gram and on send one now
Step 2. Click on record now and record your message.
Step 3. Wait for it to process, and then click on the themes on the bottom. This changes the background music and the tone of the message.
Step 4. On the bottom, either click on share or send by email, fill in the slots, and you are finished!

Click HERE to see my card. It quite hilarious.

This is really useful if you want to create a small piece of music for a project. This is usually a problem when kids are asked to write songs. It also might be useful if you aspire to create music.

DIGITAL NATION

You can be more crazy in the internet. This is very true. Since it's anonymous and there is no immediate consequences, it allows people to be more ruthless and be more aggressive.
A multi tasking learning environment is bad. Probably true, since we cant do one thing well.
Multitaskers are bad at multitasking. I disagree. There are people that can do more than one thing at once. For example, I can play Fifa and listen to an audiobook at the same time. I will win my Fifa match and understand the book well
We are consumed by what we are nurtured by. This is very true. It kind of ties with the saying "everything is excess is bad"
Google makes us smarter. I agree, since we have that instant remedy for our curiosity.
Research cant catch up to technology. I disagree, since the way we research is by using the latest technology.
Facebook is addicting. True. I have personal experience with this. Sometime you can't unstick yourself from it.
The webs can make us better people. This is true, since we can make good decisions because we have time to act and to revise.
We should teach kids how to act responsibly on the internet. I agree, since some kids are very violent online and cyber bullying can happen.
Children are naturally good at using computers. True. I have a 5 year old friend can use an iPad better than my grandmother, who is a lot smarter.
Kids are native in the internet world. We were born in the era of technology, so we are used to it and now how to use it perfectly.
There are no jobs now that make you sit down and be quiet. False. Lawyer
Technology decreases violence. True, since people can let off agression via games instead towArds other people.
Technology makes your grades better. False. When you become addicted you don't want to do anything thats not playing, i.e homework.
We should teach kids to multitask. True, if we know they are going to do, we should make them good at it.
Technology attracts kids and spikes interest. True. It's an explosion of information, which is exactly what kids like.
You can't assign a book nowadays that's more than 200 pages. True, kids will just use spark notes or something like that.
Writing skills are worse. True. Since we are exposed to slang and improper language its not a good thing.
Now we have constant interruptions. True. Facebook, games, email, bbm, etc.
There are distractions. True. Games, TV, blogs, etc.

Psychology

My topic will be psychology.

LINKS:

What I learned:
Psychology is a really interesting career to look into. It is very varied and opens many doors. Something that I would like to do is earn a degree in psychology, get a job in that area and then eventually work to getting an M.D in neuroscience. Then I will become a psychiatrist. That window is the one that I would like to look into, but I could also take another path, which is just staying a psychologist, but that would be as fun or interesting. I am really passionate about how the human brain works.

How much will study this cost?

Augmented Reality

-Topic name
-Correct label (TOPICS)
-What you know about the topic before your research
-What you wonder or questions you have about the topic before researching (at least 2)
-Links to where you found the most useful information (at least 2, NOT Wikipedia, although you can use it to help you)
-Bullet list of things you learned about the topic (at least 5)
-A short summary of how this topic connects/relates to you or your life
-Questions you still have (at least 1)

That at the moment they are not very good. They can just tell you basic information about things different from what you are seeing. For example, the weather or sports. They can't analyze things and tell you more things about them. For example, I want them to, when I see a cool car, analyze it, scan it, search it on google and tell me everything I want to know about it in a second. Like iron-man's suit.

How much would these glasses cost if they were mass produced?
What can they analyze and search?

LINKS:

Link #3

What I learned:

  • Google glasses will come out in more or less a year. They will be available to everyone and will cost about 1,500$
  • They cannot interact with the environment. They can only tell you simple things like the weather.
  • They can take pictures when you say a word.
  • The maps feature doesn't work like it should. Instead of telling you where to go, it just shows a mini-map.
  • The military already has a prototype version of the iOptik system, which lets them view the battlefield and receive orders.
This relates to my life because I am really fond of buying new technological things, so that when they come out I will try to get my paws on one. And in the future they can make my life a lot easier.

The question that I still has is:
When the commercial version comes out, will it be able to analyze things in the environment?

Google Day 1

Goals:
1. What is the best programme to do FX.
2. Make the storyline for the video I will make.
3. Start brainstorming what FX I will use.

1.
http://duelvfx.net./
This is a fantastic site for me to have a basic knowledge and once I am not so ignorant, I can start watching more advanced tutorials. I will use Adobe After Effects.

2.
Script for video: It is going to be 3 minutes.
In my park, I walk into the middle of the screen and look  confused. I'm bored
I look at my hand and erupt them into flames.
I start to juggle the flames for about 5 seconds, but get bored, so I mash the flames together, and make one big ball (basketball). It's still covered in flames, so I blow on it and it freezes to an ice ball.
I spin and the setting turns to a basketball court. I throw the ball and it goes in the hoop. I appear in a basketball stadium and the crowd goes wild. Through the door busts a dinosaur and it starts to roar. I open my jacket and take out a M16. I start shooting it and I kill it. I start hearing this buzzing sound and I wake up. I go to my fridge and open it. It starts shining so I walk in it Narnia Style. The world is like a forest, and there is a portal in the middle of it. A helicopter passes over. A bunny comes over (my dog with ears) and I pick it up.
A panda walks over and does the iron-man thing on me.The bunny turns into a light-saber and I deflect it. We have and epic fight, and it ends with me killing the panda. The end

3.
I will use the hands on fire. Fire freezing. The backboard shattering, and the transition into the stadium. The dinosaur animation, the M16 firing. The door effect (fridge). The portal, the helicopter. The iron-man thing, the bunny turns into a light-saber, and the light-saber fight.

Google 20%

For my Google 20% Project I want to learn how to do FX. I really want to make something that initially is very boring and uninteresting and make it visually incredible. These are some examples of what I wish I could do. FX is basically taking a clip and inserting a effect that makes it look like something else. It's really mindblowing when someone manages to do it well.

My goal is to make something with a mix between the football one and the Rollercoaster Tycoon one. I'll take some simple clips and mix them with very boring non-interesting clips of myself and use FX to make an awesome story.

final project prediction
