THINGS THAT DIDN'T SURPRISE ME

1. Without internet, some people don't know what to do. 
2. People are always connected, even on vacations. 
3. Schools are forced to be technological, because kids want that. 
4. Student don't read books, just spark notes and whatnot 
5. Students know more technologically than their teachers.  
6. Students fight online. 
7. Discretion and privacy aren't as important
8. People have relationships that are only online. 
9. People can have different people online. 
10. Kids are very secretive about their online identity
11. Parents are very scared about stalkers. 
12. Online predators are more dangerous than real predators. 
13. 90% of kids are connected every day. 
14. Kids use the internet to listen to music
15. Kids are commonly sexually harassed online. 

THINGS THAT DID SURPRISE ME

1. People used the internet to complain about parents, because I thought they did that in person.
2. Parents can monitor student activity on the web, because I didn't know that there were applications for that and they knew how it worked.
3. Students can control what their parents can see, because I didn't know you could do that.
4. Some teachers just don't care about sparknotes, because all my teachers do. 
5. Some teachers don't see sparknotes as cheating, because all of mine do. 
6. Myspace was VERY similar to FB today, because I thought it was different.
7. Fights were only online, because I thought they were in person
8. Sometimes fights start just because of online disputes, because I didn't know that kids cared so much about online disputes.
9. Girls that are as young as 14 post almost pornographical photos of themselves, I thought that it started when they were much older.                                       
10. Parents are very involved in keeping their kids safe online, because I thought they didn't care
11. Moms put computers in public places so they can watch everything, because I thought they didn't care
12. Kids had competitions about who can have the most friends, because that sounds stupid. 
13. Most kids know to ignore predators, because I thought they weren't smart enough
14. Girls have eating disorders because they want to be like someone they found online
15. People have forums and things like that to make a problem better and not so bad because of online support. 

THINGS THAT HAVE CHANGED SINCE THEN

1. People switched from MySpace to Facebook
2. People don't use email as much (personally)
3. Cell phones are a lot more connected\
4. The internet has lots more info
5. Kids put a lot more info of themselves on the internet. 
6. Laptops are more popular.
7. Twitter makes kids more addicted to the internet. \
8. Kids have tablets
9. Kids don't use text messages that much.
10. There are lots more websites and apps. 
11. Kids trust their kids more. 
12. People overreacted a lot more back then 
13. Kids can now be bought online. 
14. A lot more things are wireless.
15. There are lots more antivirus and things like that

QUESTIONS:
1. What topic do you identify most strongly with?
   The one that struck with me the most was the part where it talked about the kid whose parents were always trying to see what he was up to online. My parents also tried to do this when I was younger (maybe 10 or 11) but they failed, just like the dad in the film. It was easy for me to see what and when they were seeing my activity and avoid it. I'm not saying that I was trying to hide anything (because I wasn't looking at anything I wasn't supposed to) but I still felt a tad bit uncomfortable about them spying on me.

3D Printing Face Reconstruction

What I know:
I know that there was a man that had a huge tumor on his face and when the doctors removed it in an operation, most of his face was destroyed. He couldn't even eat. So some scientists created a 3D model  of the part of his face that's missing so that he can live a normal life.

What I want to know:
- How long does it take to make it?
- How expensive will it be to make?
- Will this technology ever be open to the general public?
- How do you make it?

What I learned:

• How it works is that a thin layer of special dust is laid on a surface. A laser is then pointed at it and it burns the particles together. Then the next layer is laid and then they stick all the layers.
• A normal plastic prosthetic is cheap and easy to make, but for the high tech ones in facial reconstructions, there are lots more steps. 
• The first thing is that the shape is a LOT more complex than regular things. It's also made from different materials to make it more realistic. It also has to be painted. All this makes it quite complicated to make.
• It allows the guy to eat and drink normally, as well as look semi-normal.
• Doctors are researching more about this, and they say that in a few years this technology will be more available.

This could some day be a part of my life because if someday I have a problem similar to this guy's, this technology could help me.

Moar Questions:

- Can you make limbs using this?

- Could they eventually be connected to your nervous system and act like a normal part of your body.

Design Project Day 5

2. Our goals was to make it two player, based around football and make it challenging but not too hard. We met these goals because they were easy to achieve and simple.

• Our biggest problem was getting the amount of players right. If there were too many, it would be too hard, but if there weren't enough then it wouldn't be football related. We put 4 players in the end.
• Our biggest AHA moment was when we got the idea to use little fruits from a tree as balls for the game.
• Noone. Everyone was open minded and accepting of new ideas.
• We had doubts about if the paddles would work, but we ensured that they did by cutting their holes close to the ground.
• I was the devil's advocate because I tried my best to make sure that everything works and to do that you also have to question. It helped us because we discarded ideas that never would have worked.
• I learned that when you work in a team you can accomplish goals quicker and more effectively. I also learned that it's important to keep your objectives in mind when designing something. 

Design Project - Day 3

CHOOSE
1. This is what we said the game will be like: Addictive, innovative, familiar elements, challenging but not impossible and professionalism..  I think they match our game because everyone knows about soccer and it's hard. The only thing is that it's not very professional.
2. We want to keep the football aspect because we know that kids love it. 
3. We will remove the players in the field because it makes it look crammed.
Implement
1. I will make the arena and stick it together. Andres will make the paddles and Felipe will make it look good. 
2. We need wood for the paddles and that's it.

Design Project - Day 2

Phase 1:
1. We think that Felipe's is the best because it is the most detailed and has the feeding tube.

It needs the walls surrounding the goal so that it looks better. We also need to add players.

We need to take away the walls that make the ball out of bounds.

Critisism:
Our prototype was not that good because it was very fragile and didn't work perfectly. We got the suggestion to make the hitters out of wood and to make the whole thing bigger.
